THE CLUB
We welcome all ages, abilities and genders.
Brighton Stormers are an established Inline Hockey club with members from across Sussex. The club was born from the Keep Sussex Skating (KSS) Regency Blades Club which used to run outdoor weekly sessions in Brighton’s Preston Park. KSS was set up in 1988 in response to the closure of Brighton’s ‘Sussex’ ice rink and continues to campaign to this day.
Stormers have come a long way since their early days and they now play all their matches on an enclosed rink. They have consistently performed well in South East leagues, regularly competing across all age groups in both Regional / National championships and tournaments. Over the years a number of Stormers players have been selected to represent Great Britain in International tournaments and the world in-line championships.
• STORMERS OFFER RECREATIONAL SESSIONS FOR BEGINNERS OF ALL AGES.
• STORMERS HAVE TEAMS COMPETING AT LEAGUE LEVEL ACROSS ALL AGE GROUPS FROM 5 YEARS OLD TO SENIOR AND VETERAN.
• PLAYERS HAVE TO HAVE PROTECTIVE BODY ARMOUR, HELMETS WITH FACE GUARDS AND GLOVES, SO ARE FULLY PROTECTED.
• MATCHES ARE PLAYED INDOORS, SO RARELY CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER.
• GIRLS AND BOYS CAN PLAY IN THE SAME TEAM RIGHT UP TO SENIOR LEVEL.
THE GAME
Inline Hockey is fast and exciting, operating under similar rules to Ice Hockey. Players wear inline roller skates instead of ice skates. Matches are played in both adapted leisure centres and purpose-built rinks. Stormers have teams playing in the BIPHA South puck and ball leagues, part of the British Inline Puck Hockey Association (BIPHA) also BISHA south ball leagues part of the British Inline Skater Hockey Association (BiSHA)
SATURDAY CLUB
Stormers run a drop-in recreational skater hockey session on Saturday afternoons. This is designed for youngsters new to the game but is open to anyone who wants to try. The sessions help develop skating skills and give a first taste of what it’s like to compete as part of a team. First session is free, all you need is some skates – we’ll provide the rest.
Once children have attained a certain level of skating competence, they are invited to trial for one of the club’s league teams. Stormers offer continuity through all the age ranges and the opportunity to play at all levels. The club has experienced and qualified coaches for all levels and provide an excellent environment for children to learn to skate safely.
